چکیده

Transonic buffet refers to the self-sustained periodic motion of shock waves observed in transonic flows over wings and can limit flight envelope aircraft. Based on boundary layer characteristics at foot, has been classified as laminar or turbulent mechanisms underlying two have proposed be different (Dandois et al. , J. Fluid Mech. vol. 18, 2018, pp. 156–178). The effect various flow parameters (freestream Mach Reynolds numbers sweep incidence angles) an infinite wing (Dassault Aviation's supercritical V2C aerofoil) is reported here by performing large-eddy simulations (LES) for a wide range parameters. A spectral proper orthogonal decomposition identified presence low-frequency mode associated with high-frequency wake modes related vortex shedding. reconstruction based only former shows boundary-layer separation reattachment accompanying wave motion. modal suggests that bubble breathing phenomenon Dandois due this mode. Together, these results indicate physical governing are same. Buffet was also simulated zero incidence. Shock appear both aerofoil surfaces oscillate out phase each other indicating occurrence Type I (Giannelis Aerosp. Sci. Technol. 89–101) aerofoil. These suggest types

Large-eddy simulation of transonic turbulent flow over a bump

Transonic turbulent boundary-layer flow over a circular-arc bump has been computed by high-resolution large-eddy simulation of the compressible Navier–Stokes equations. The inflow turbulence was prescribed using a new technique, in which known dynamical features of the inner and outer part of the boundary-layer were exploited to produce a standard turbulent boundary-layer within a short distanc...

Large Eddy Simulations using oodlesDST

The oodlesDST code is based on OpenFOAM software and performs Large Eddy Simulations of turbulent fluid flows. The code contains a number of specialized subgrid scale turbulence models and wall models. This report describes these models in sufficient detail to allow a new user of the code to make informed decisions regarding the use of these models for particular applications. An overview of th...

Numerical Study of Transonic Buffet on a Supercritical Airfoil

The flow of the Bauer–Garabedian–Korn (BGK) No. 1 supercritical airfoil is investigated by the solution of the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations with a two-equation lagged k–ω turbulent model. Two steady cases (M = 0.71, α= 1.396 deg and M = 0.71, α= 9.0 deg) and one unsteady case (M = 0.71, α= 6.97 deg), all with a far-stream Reynolds number of 20 × 106, are computed. The resu...

Explicit Filtering and Reconstruction Turbulence Modeling for Large-eddy Simulations of Field-scale Flows

Large-eddy simulation (LES) has become a widely-used method for computation of field-scale environmental flows; however, challenges remain in determining the optimal turbulence closure method. Recently, the concept of explicit filtering and reconstruction has become recognized as a means to obtain more accurate simulation results (Carati et al. 2001, Winckelmans et al. 2001, Stolz et al. 2001, ...
